About Jodie

Once upon a time when a very dark night turned into several dark years-there was an artist that desperately wanted to re-emerge and shine her light again.

Then one day the horses came and carried her into being and life was never the same

Throughout my life, horses have shaped who I am—not only as heart-mates, but as teachers, healers, and beings of wisdom and inspiration. In my younger years, they carried me through the forests of Pennsylvania, sharing the profound connection between humans, animals, and nature.

Since 2004, I’ve called Colorado,Montana, Oregon, Texas, and now Arizona home—spending over 10 years as a caretaker and ranch manager for horse ranches and rescues. I’ve cared for blind horses, retired ranch horses, performance endurance and cutting horses, and mares and foals. Each experience deepened my knowing of their resilience, grace, forgiveness, loyalty, and capacity to heal human hearts.

In 2007, I adopted my first Mustang, Roman and together we had some of the wildest adventures across the West. I’m forever grateful to him.

My life turned sideways in 2019 when I was diagnosed with chronic vestibular migraine and other vestibular disorders. Daily vertigo, dizziness, nausea, and cognitive limitations made even simple moments feel impossible. I was often told there was no cure—I didn’t believe them.

My naturopath encouraged me to “take the medicine of the horse and paint it.”

As a self-taught artist for many years, I created with acrylics and watercolor before discovering colored pencils and soft pastels, creating horses with meticulous details and layers. The slow, meditative process became a place of stillness—calming my brain and supporting my healing.

It was this daily practice, along with my two Mustangs, Roman and Zaira, that carried me through. When surviving another day felt unimaginable, they brought me back.

After years of searching for the root cause I found a TMJ specialist who discovered that a past dental appliance had shifted my jaw out of alignment, disrupting my vestibular system. With his care, expertise and experience, I began to slowly heal—regaining clarity and connection between my brain and body once again.

Art was the gift—the jewel uncovered through this long arduous journey. Guided by my horses and my new way to create the spirit of the Mustang, they carved this path for me back to healing and wholeness.

Today, I primarily work in watercolor, creating from a place of soulful and heartfelt connection with each horse I bring to life.

The Wild Mare Series was born from this healing path—a body of work intended to illuminate the profound connection and healing presence horses offer. And to shine a light on the Wild Mares and their family bonds both in the wild and in captivity.  As sentient beings, they invite us into peace, presence, and heart-centered awareness—something which can be felt through art.

My heart’s desire is to honor and illuminate the horse as a source of inspiration, hope, love, and light—inviting others to connect with them through the heart.

Being a certified Equine Facilitated Coach and Equine Bodyworker, and I also weave these experiences into both my art and my work with others.

I’m honored to be an award-winning equine artist and the illustrator of the book “Einstein—The Special Relativity of Love”.

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to learn more about my art and healing journey.

If you feel called to connect, I’d love to hear from you.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Every horse carries an untold story, and it’s my purpose and passion to bring those stories to life through my art.

My intention is to blend painting with emotional resonance, revealing the soulful connection between horse and human in every brushstroke.

Through my art, I wish to evoke emotion, spark curiosity, and invite others to see the horse not just as a subject, but as a soulful being with a story all their own.

Each painting invites you to feel their presence and offers your heart to connect with a deeper appreciation to witness their spirit, their quiet grace, resilience and a soul that longs to be truly seen.
